GOD what a long time without posting!!!!
been very busy since the last blog but I got a new digital camera this weekend so Imagine that there will be plenty of flickr blogs soon, especially as we are going to Amsterdam this weekend and Simon and Jon from university days are coming to stay on Wednesday... also i am getting up early and writing ever morning before work so i am going to endeavour to do a blog on Friday mornings as well...
in the meantime here is a copy of my weakest link application for that i am sending to the BBC... sorry if it is a bit vain but you have to big yourself up a bit on these things...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WEAKEST LINK CONTESTANT APPLICATION FORM
How long have you been a resident of the UK?: All my life apart for a year exploring the world and working in Australia.
Do you consider yourself disabled: no
How did you hear about applying for the show: online
Have you ever appeared on TV before: I was an extra sitting in a cafe about 6 years ago who got punched in the face (I cant remember why but it was part of a comedy sketch in a show called Lucky Bag)
Please give dates you know you will not be available between now and March 2006 - make sure you tell us about any holidays you have planed: nothing planned
CURRENT AND PREVIOUS OCCUPATIONS:
CURRENT: After studying and working in Wales for around 6 years and then taking a year traveling around the world including 6 months working in Australia I have recently returned to Dorset to start my own design company alongside my girlfriend and business partner Lesley Nichols. We have decided to keep our company small and personal and to work from a small home studio for clients who interest us emotional and intellectually rather than purely financially. By doing this we believe we are going against the norm so we have called our company REVOLTING. (www.wearerevolting.co.uk) This April will be our 1st year anniversary of being revolting.
PREVIOUS: I left my home town of Poole in dorset at the age of 19 to study Art and Aesthetics (a mixture of fine art practice and art history and philosophy) at the university of Wales in Cardiff. In order to fund my studies I spent the evenings and weekends stocking the shelves and building bikes at toys r us, the highlight of the my employment being the day I was strapped into a 9ft giraffe costume to play the company mascot, Geoffrey and parading around a rainy car park. After leaving University I had a variety of jobs including working as a design assistant on short films and for television, managing a number of events including an underground cinema screening and an exhibition of contemporary art in a disused church. Ultimately I was offered a position as a new media designer at Seven, a design agency in Cardiff, where I worked for three years as a web and multimedia designer. Next came a period of freelancing where he worked for a portfolio of my own clients as well as contracting at a number of agencies in the South Wales area. This was followed with a period of time living and working in Australia where I spent the majority of his time as a designer at ACP Magazines in Melbourne.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS: Although this past year has been pretty hectic with the new company and settling back to life in Dorset and the UK, this year I have started to going to my local Aikido club where I train on Monday and Thursday night, I hope to take my 1st grading in March to move up from white belt to yellow belt. I love going the cinema and reading about movies, my ultimate ambition being to one day write for the screen. Last year I caught the Doctor Who bug and spend way too much time reading rubbish about the show on the net. In order to fulfil our desire for a somewhere with a little history in which to live and work in my girlfriend and I have just had and offer accepted on an apparent in a converted 19th century psychiatric hospital sitting in the middle of the Dorset countryside. I am also finally learning to drive.
In one sentence, how would you describe yourself?: An imaginative optimist with tendency for obsession and impatience in equal measures.
What personality traits do you dislike in other people? (eg lateness, rudeness, etc...): Lack of enthusiasm, self-belief and ambition in the talented. Overconfidence, vanity and nepotism in the mediocre. I also dislike dishonestly and selfishness.
Do you have any interesting habits, quirk or obsessions?: Checking my work email, yahoo email, the doctor who online forum (www.gallifreyone.com) and latest movie news (www.aintitcool.com) every 15min - I know that makes me sound like a complete geek, but honestly I’m not it just a habit that annoys even me.
How competitive are you? Please give examples if necessary: I would say I am pretty competitive, not that I have any interests in playing any sports. I do however shout answers out the TV when watching games shoes and feel very superior if I get the answers right and the contestants on the TV don’t. I have been told I can get quite driven when set on a task, especial when working with others, this lead me to getting the nick names ‘the general’ and ‘daddy cleaves’ at university. (Affectionately I hope)
Why would you like to be a contestant on the Weakest Link: Because it is the game-show that gets me shouting the answers at the TV the loudest, and I wouldn’t forget to bank!
What do you think is the best strategy for playing the weakest link: Bank after every 3rd correct answer and always vote for the 2nd strongest link. - not that I have though about it too hard ;)
How would you cope with Anne’s ‘acid tongue’ put downs: I would hope that I would give as good as I get, but I imagine I would probably crack under the pressure but think of some great retorts on the bus home.
If you were a winner on the show, what would you spend the money on?: I would love to see the northern lights or go and see orca in the wild.
